Back at school after Lockdown

It's great to be back together again in Room 5 after three weeks in Lockdown.

Tamariki have returned to school relaxed and happy to be back. They have benefited from the mahi they did during Lockdown.

We also finally got the chance to celebrate our reward afternoon. We earned ten smiley faces for the times when the whole class stays focused and on task.  We made popcorn and built huts. Here are some photos of them, as well as some other things we have been doing this week:

Popcorn makers primed and ready to go. ...

Archer and Lucas made transformer robot/cars with the kinex.

Vincent and Aiobheal enjoy afternoon tea in a wet lunch hour.

Welcome back decorations

We have a chess master in the class. Ms Jones is working hard to win a game!

Home learning Monday 6th September

 Morena, morena!

I hope everyone had a great weekend enjoying the sunshine and getting some Vitamin D outside.

Here are some things you can do today:

Writing

Make up a story about living on a cruise ship with Room 5. We are a boarding school and live on a ship travelling the world. You have a cabin you share with your family, and the ship has every activity on board you would ever want to do. It has a swimming pool and a soccer field and lots of play spaces. Even a movie theatre. We stop at every country in the world and go ashore to have adventures.

Your story can include an adventure in a country you would really like to visit.
Or something that happens on the ship.

Draw the ship and you on board.
Write your story.
Save it to show me when we go back to school!

Maths

Make a tally chart and work out how many cars, bikes, trucks, delivery vehicles go down your street.
Go out to the footpath three or four times and count for ten minutes.
Your tally chart might look like this:

Imaginative

Pretend you are a giant and can make a miniature world outside. Find a spot where you can make a little town or a farm or a dinosaur park. You can put moss and sand and little stones for paths. Make tiny houses. If you have plastic animals you could make spaces for them to live. Rocks can be mountains.
Take a photo and send it to Ms Jones.

Listen to a Piggie and Gerald story

Enjoy your day!

Sunny Friday in Lockdown

 Morena koutou,

Here are some things you could do today:

Say the class karakia:

E tu tatou mo te Karakia timatanga

Opening Karakia

E ngā uri a Tane

Ngā manu o te whenua

O te rangi

O te ngahere

O ngā awa

O te takutai

Mā ā koutou korokī

Ka rongo mātou

Te Ira Tangata

Te ahua o te rangi

E heke mai nei

Kia whai ora mai mātou

Haumi e, hui e, taiki e!

Read and illustrate the poem of the day:

Open a Book

Open a book

And you will find,

People and places of every kind;

Open a book

And you can be,

Anything you want to be;

Open a book

And you can share,

Wondrous words you find in there

Open a book

And I will too,

You read to me,

And I’ll read to you!

Write a story. Here is a story starter for you. Use your imagination to draw a picture then write what happens next.....

... I was nearly asleep in bed when I heard a strange sound outside. I crept quietly  to the window and peered around the curtains.  I couldn't believe my eyes! Outside my window was .......

 Kia ora koutou.

If you haven't been able to use Seesaw here are some things you can do today:

Writing

Pretend you are an architect. Your friend has asked you to design a house for them.
You can put anything in it you like. Make it your dream house.
Draw the floor plan.
Here is an example of a floor plan:

Now draw yours and then write a story explaining all the wonderful things you have put into your house plans.

Build a bird feeder.

Here is the bird feeder Lachlan made to attract wax eyes. The wax eye's  Māori name is Tauhou.
Lachlan was surprised that tui visited the orange slices in the bird feeder.
There were plenty of Tauhou as well.
