We went for a walk to the kitchen garden. We saw lots of vegetables - onions, pumpkins, silverbeet, tomatoes and lettuce. We saw marigolds too - they help to keep the bugs away.We need to pull the weeds out of our garden. We would like to make a scarecrow for our garden to scare the birds away so they don't eat our tomatoes. How can we make a scarecrow? |
Hello, my name is Jason Lynch and I am a student in EDM310 at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama in the United States of America. After reading your blog I wanted to tell you this post was cool. Taking a trip to the kitchen garden in school, seems like a really fun trip, with lots of fun things to learn. When I was boy my father had a garden and I helped him plant all sorts of vegetables. We had problems with bugs, but he usually sprayed some kind of pesticide. That would have been good to know about the marigolds. We also had problems with birds in our garden. He taught me how to build a scarecrow, so as to stop the birds from raiding our garden. It was a fun project we did together. He cut down a couple of short trees and nailed them together into a cross. Then he got some old clothes, straw, and rope to create the body. We used a pumpkin for the head. I remember trying to draw the scariest face I could think of to scare those birds away. When it was finished the birds were not the only ones scared. There stood on a cross a creepy worn out figure with a straw hat and a scary face. Wow, that was scary remembering it. You guys should try to build a scarecrow in class as a fun project. Just some advice, make it more funny and less scary. Thank you for sharing your post with me. This was really fun to read and helped me think of good times with my father. I learned so much in that garden, I hope you guys learn a lot too.
